[Fall 2017] Civil Service Employees’ Association Newsletter

By: Attorney Benjamin Taylor, Attorney at Law

Members of the CSEA,

I want to provide you with a short update on trends to be on the watch for. First and foremost, employees must always be aware of their sick time and the risk of being placed on sick abuse. I have used more ink in writing articles warning about the sick abuse policy than any other topic. That is for a good reason. This is how good workers find themselves in Pre-Disciplinary Hearings. Many agree that the sick abuse policy is an absurdity. I still don’t know who thought this policy implementation was wise. It has been exceptionally effective in papering the files of excellent employees while not making a difference for those who would have formerly been found abusive of sick time.

In addition to the sick abuse policy, I want to make you aware of the imminent update to the CSEA website. In addition to the existing way for getting in touch with me through the CSEA office, you will now be able to contact me through the website. There will also be a periodic commentary from me that you will be able to read. Feel free to come visit my corner there and keep this resource in mind if you ever have legal questions pertaining to your employment.

The Civil Service Employees’ Association
